JSC Sukhoi Civil Aircraft (SCAC) obtained the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certificate authorizing to operate Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) on the runways down to 30 meters.
EASA certification of take-off and landing performance on 30m wide runways constitutes a part of SCAC strategy for enhancing Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) operating conditions. EASA certification of narrow runway operation has been triggered by request of CityJet, an Irish airline that started the SSJ100 operation in June 2016.
Alongside with London City airport which is one of the CityJet key points, several other European airports are also featured with 30m wide runways, including Southern Airport (Great Britain) and the airport of Florence (Italy). The EASA certificate is effective outside Europe in many regions of the world.
Ilya Tarasenko, President of JSC Sukhoi Civil Aircraft:
“In ongoing work, we are developing the product and enhancing its operation capabilities. We are receptive for the feedback from our customers, and not only we deliver the aircraft within the shortest term in the market, but we also perform additional activities regarding their customization”.
London City airport located 11 km away from London stands out for its runway which is both narrow and short. To enable SSJ100 operation from this airport, SCAC is performing activities to initiates to start operate in London City by December of 2017 and further improvement of performance of the aircraft by installation of the horizontal winglets in 2018.
This approach mode will be guaranteed by wing-flap system modernization and FMS and avionics improvement. Due to such retrofit the aircraft run will be shortened thus allowing CityJet fleet aircraft to fit in the short London City runway. Flight tests are to be started in the summer of 2017.
CityJet, an Irish airline having its headquarters in Dublin, is the first customer in Europe to take SSJ100 for operation. The airline has 15 firm orders for SSJ100 and an option for another 16 aircraft.
